Choosing a Keyword Rich Domain Name for Your Angus Business

Choosing a good domain name for your Angus business is an important part of being found on the search engines.

On the video I said I’d go home and have a look to see how the search term “removals scotland” faired for web searches and how Caledonian Removals were doing with the search engines because of their choice of domain name.

The search term “removals scotland” had not very many searches – only 33 broad match searches per day in the UK (I searched the UK statistics because I thought it was quite a local area kind of business, rather than international). Caledonian Removals were ranked on the first page of Google (#8 for that search term).

Backlinks – What are they and why do you need them?

What are backlinks and why are they so important?

Before search engines such as Yahoo, Google & Bing were around, backlinks were the way people on the internet moved from site to site.

Today, backlinks are still a significant factor in making your  website known on the internet.

The number of backlinks

The number of backlinks is one of the indications on how popular a website is. The search engines send “robots” or “bots” to visit websites on the internet and pay attention to the links which the websites have on their sites. If your website has a link on another site then Google and the other search engines consider that to be a mark in your favour.

Getting backlinks to your website is a key part of  letting the search engines know you are there, and if the link to your site also has relevant text relating to your niche or business then it helps the search engines know what your website is about.

However, all backlinks are not created equal.  Google has their own ranking system to determine how important they think each website is. They call this page rank. The higher the page rank the more the links from it will be worth. Therefore if your website can develop links coming back to your website from some of these high page rank websites it is of great benefit.

Outside of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), the backlinks of a webpage may be of significant  interest: they indicate who is paying attention to that page. You may have links from personal friends, partner businesses, web directories, or many other kinds of sites.
